One Month into 2023 and things are busy as usual in Cloudcroft!

Let me give a bullet-point list of what’s happened in our community or is about to happen soon.  

• Otero County is BACK, and with it is an added owner into the LCAR grouping – Colonel Thomas Daniels.  Among other things this community has a Ski resort, and there may be some major military roleplay available…
• We are allowing semi-supernatural roleplay – but within the confines of “unspoken public secrecy laws”.  Don’t get caught being anything BUT human out on the street, you don’t want to get dissected in any of the hospital, military, or university labs.– OOC we’re a publicly human community.  This means we do not have Furries, and if you roleplay a shape changer, and are injured, you are to be in one form or another while treated.  By the way – we don’t have a veterinarian’s office presently.  I don’t advise being injured outside of a human form. The ranchers may put you down for fear of danger to their livestock or the military may take you away to be evaluated as a non-human.  Did you ever see E.T.?  Yeah, you will likely end up on the table cut open for exploratory surgery if non-human and caught.  Remember we’re between where they tested the atomic bombs in 1945 and where the UFO crash supposedly happened in Roswell in 1947… and even 90 miles apart from Cloudcroft each way.

• We have a new HUD system being created, those familiar with the WW Meter will find the transition easy enough when we implement it.  It’s still a little ways off before we go to Beta.
• The Lincoln Independent is BACK!  Any and all news you want to share should go to Hall Cole (hallcole) with any advertisements, news tips, scoops, etc!
• The next citizen classe will be Friday, 10 February, 2022 at 10am SLT, followed by the 15th of February, at 5 pm SLT.  There will be a 10 am SLT class taught weekly on Fridays (taught by Johnny Berry) as well so those who can’t make the late afternoon will have a chance to get the morning class. These will be held at Artemis University on the third floor
  
  – Citizenship class is required for rezzing, renting, and leadership roles in town.  This assures you know what the community rules and culture are and can help promote what we are and help bring us into what we will be.
• City Council – We will have elections for City Council members in May. Council members will represent the following commissioner positions that are electable.  All these roles are leadership roles requiring citizenship classes and abide by similar rules/role requirements to the Police Commissioner/Chief of Police.  They can help make our sim grouping something that attracts new people to Cloudcroft and the LCAR overall.
  • • Parks and Recreation
    • Planning Commission
    • School Commissioner
• Mayor’s Office – The Mayor is an elected role in our community – and has to abide by similar rules/role requirements as the village Commissioner/Chief of Police.  The next election is in May.
• We are evaluating a candidate for appointed village Commissioner/Chief of Police until May.. where they will have to run for office then.  If you want to run for the role of Chief (which is a very administrative-heavy role and responsible for that department’s operations IC and OOC,) please drop a note off filing for it with the Mayor’s office.  This role will mostly be managed OOC by Connor Silverfall as he’s our APEX administrator and will provide loads of OOC support to help anyone in the role of law enforcement.  Our goal is for this individual to be able to handle it eventually without owner/admin hands-on – because we prefer to not over manage.
• DFS Rentals – we have them if you want to have a DFS Farm, our HUD system will have us raising certain foods and medicinal ingredients, but we also plan on being able to utilize DFS ingredients to help make it worth still keeping going with your existing farming.
• We have our Valentine’s ball coming up – “Love in the Clouds” from 1 to 3 SLT in the Wild Mustang Saloon, this is coordinated by our own Kammy Page, and we hope to see her run more events for us.
• DFS Cooking Classes – those will be starting soon – keep your eyes open for Kammy Page to be announced when they are ready.
• We hope to be running a monthly Community Expo. This is a chance for you to get your RP business known.  Please drop an NC IC at the Mayor’s office (there is an in-box at the front counter) in the Village Hall to let us know you want a booth.  The date for this is Feb 25, 2023, from 10 am to 2 pm, and is an opportunity to promote your business or recruit for hiring.  We will post this in the SL events listing publicly for all roleplayers, in and in many groups, to come to check out. Please let us know ASAP if you want a booth.
• Want to be a host of regular RP events?  We welcome it and will post events for you.  
• Town Law Enforcement officer roles are open.  Please drop a note card in the inbox at the Mayor’s office with a “resume” to let us know.  Uniforms and Vehicles are issued to this role’s users.
• Dangerous animals.  At present, it’s only the WW Meter animals that are dangerous.  That can and will change with the implementation of the new HUD.
• The Ski resort opening party will happen soon – this will be limited to Citizens Only, and held in Otero County at “Ski Cloudcroft” in the Elk Lounge.  Keep an eye out on notices for community members there.
• Collaborative Roleplay
  We use APEX, which is mentioned in our Citizen class, and this does allow us to see if someone’s character has a warrant out for their arrest elsewhere.  Please be aware we will extradite when/if roleplay demands.  🙂
• Website updates – We will be updating this site ASAP with information on businesses, and any clarification on rules and our operations that may have needed to be updated for 2023.

I think that’s it for now.  I know it’s a lot, and I really don’t want to be making all this in multiple posts in the LCAR notices.  If you’ve read it all the way through I want to thank you very much, as well as thank you for your decision to come to Cloudcroft to roleplay.  Yes, it can be quiet sometimes, but your being here to roleplay is what attracts others to come roleplay.  This means you as the roleplayer are responsible for it happening or not for you in Cloudcroft and we thank those of you who are doing it now and welcome those of you who would like to become more involved.

To: New Mexico Dept. of Economic Development

This is to provide notification of the proposal to develop the area known as the Cloudcroft Mine for future use as a residential/agricultural area. All regulations relating to re-purposing former areas that have been mined have been adhered to. The state’s Dept. of Natural Resources has approved the handling of the land area for any hazardous materials, and has determined that the water on site is potable.
This letter is also to dispel any rumors about bodies being buried at that site dating back to the 1880s. There was no evidence found. Any rumors of such evidence are just hearsay and cannot be proven.

Recently we’ve had a spate of folks threatening retaliatory reporting of others because they were called out for rules violations or just because they didn’t like someone. Please turn on logging so you can protect yourself from this behavior if you need to file an appeal with Linden Labs and if you are looking to roleplay in our community please wear the WW Meter. If you don’t know how to use the WW Meter, don’t worry – we have a bunch of classes planned for these this month. Those will be listed below.

❆❆Citizenship has its perks. We all protect each other.
That said – we will revoke citizenship for anyone who uses resources of the community for purposes of violation of rule 3. This is the No drama llama rule.
Trying to cancel other members and get them removed without cause will cause you to be found in violation of Rule 3.

❆❆Attempting to Appeal your friend SL Family Member’s removal from the Group and or banning from the LCAR Region –
Our Admins and Owners don’t make these decisions lightly and they are discussed in full by our owner/admin team. If you know of someone who was removed and or ejected and permanently removed or simply asked to not return to our community: we will not debate nor discuss the owners decision regarding removal of a member due to rule violations from the LCAR group with a third party.

Keyboardist/guitarist/flautist/vocalist Andreus ‘Anj’ Gustafson has been performing in RL for many years. He has toured the USA, Japan and Korea in cover bands since the late 1980’s and now brings a collection of his original tunes and songs that he likes in to Second Life in hopes of finding others who also enjoy the same sort of popular, though slightly eclectic, tastes as he does. Musical styles include alternative, pop and progressive rock with a definite electronica influence.

At a typical Anj performance, one just might hear songs by artists such as Pink Floyd, Billy Idol, The Beatles, Coldplay, STP, Collective Soul, Radiohead, Emerson, Lake and Palmer, Willie Porter, Jethro Tull, Matchbox 20, Sting…. etc. Plus a few original songs thrown in for good measure. There is sure to be a little something for everyone.

If you are a citizen of the LCAR: please bring an ornament (1LI please) to put on the tree for the season! These will be sent back to you when the holiday season is over so please don’t use something that would be lost forever if it was returned by an admin.

There could be more events than just what we have listed here – so don’t be shy about coming on by. Remember you have to have citizenship to have rez rights unless you are an entertainer.
If you want to host an event – please don’t be shy and drop off a note card in the Welcome Center specifically asking about it. Just remember we are a WW Meter using Family Roleplay Community. It’s your fault if you decide to pet a bison and get mauled.

This month we have a lot going on, but I want to highlight that our FoundersDay is the 18th.  

We will have live music in Cloudcroft and a trolley can take you over to the Carnival over at Horten County.  That Carnival ENDS the 18th and something new will go in on the 19th so don’t miss it!  

ENTERTAINERS WANTED

We are actively looking for entertainment events for the 3pm, 4pm and 5pm slots, as events go from 1:30pm to 8pm. We would like y’all to enter this in your personal calendars and make sure you are there – as the live music booked will be amazing, and hey – it’s our homecoming right?  Let’s do it up!

ELECTIONS

Sheriff and Mayor Elections coming up in the LCAR

Voting starts on Nov 15 and runs to Nov 27, with the winners sworn in on December 4 after our Christmas Tree Lighting.  Voting will be limited to LCAR Group members only and held in the voting room of the courthouse like usual.  Extra Berson’s/Rolepay bonus’ will be given to the winner.

To be considered for Sheriff or Mayor in the LCAR you must at minimum have been an active resident (in Apex and active in the community) for 90 days before swearing in.  For more information reach out to morrigu.berry in world or file a notice of intent to run by dropping a note card in our inbox in the welcome center or the court house

WEDDINGS

Did you know that to get married in the LCAR you need to file an application for a wedding license?  This is a two fold thing – it’s both IC and OOC for the owners, It lets us know that you have an event planned, so we can provide security from griefers (Both Law and having Admin’s around) and make sure nothing else is happening that day in the location you want it to. 

It makes you all “Legal” in our community and gives you a cute marriage license for your walls, record or later burning in a divorce party if you’d like. 

OTHER EVENTS

We are a roleplay community – we love weddings and the fun they bring.  We love birthday parties, baby showers, etc – we’re all for them.  Please reach out to us though – even a quick NC in the box in either the Court House or the Welcome Center with info will help us help you and it keeps activities happening in our community.

HARVEST MARKET

Vendors wanted for a Harvest Market!

Calling all DFS/DLS Creators – do you farm or craft?  Are you looking for a small booth space to set up at with your goods and does the idea of being a participant in a Harvest Market sound good to you?  We have a DFS/DLS Family Roleplay sim filled with DFS/DLS users and we just set up our Harvest Market space right between the grocery store and the school playground.  Booths are limited – come give it a look-see and you could setup as early as tonight if you would like! Booths are 30L a week for 20 LI space and must be PG rated.

HOUSING

Recently we’ve added more affordable family housing, as a key component to attracting families is having what keeps them.  That big mansion across the street from the train station on Burro Ridge?  It’s gone.  In it’s place are single family homes, adorable and affordable.

In Montana North – we have housing for larger families too.  We are happy to say that it’s been discovered, and we believe a multigenerational family has moved into our southernmost property there.  The Montana North homes have farm space by the way… these all can be driven to and accessed easily by train, car, bicycle or horse.

For those looking for Farm Space for your DFS farms, and you might want to sprawl out more?  Never Fear!  We got ya covered!  At the Ruidoso Station from the train, you can take the road southwest and you’ll find not only DFS Fishing – but DFS Farm land for rent!  Who says elevation 3900 in SL has to be a skybox!  This is flat land just perfect for farming with mountains all around and some caves you might get to explore if you go far enough around there.  While you can’t drive your car from the ground to the Ruidoso level, if you rez your car at the tunnel entrance from Church street, you can drive the roads up there.  

Bento/Prim horses can be ridden through and there is another access point to the Lincoln Forest there… again not drivable but accessible by train and by horse. (Animesh horses won’t work – sorry folks.)

MONEY MONEY MONEY

We are starting to put in vendors that will allow users to sell their wares for Bersons. YES!  This is FINALLY coming in.  We use the RolePay (Trademarked name) system from Nexus, so money you earn in the LCAR can be spent in another RolePay community.  Will they call it Bersons?  Probably not.  BUT Goods and SERVICES can be used and purchased in this currency.  We can not allow purchase of Bersons/Rolepay dollars for Lindens or vice versa, as it’s a violation of Linden Lab’s TOS, and likely fits into the gambling rules somehow, so we will not be doing away with traditional vendors that sell for lindens.  We will never force you to sell your DFS or other created goods for Bersons, so you can rest assured that this is a roleplay option available like the others provided and paid for by sim ownership on an OOC level.  (DLS Amentities etc…)

DLS AMENTETIES

Energy and Fun are back in DiviniTea… and the court house has a bathroom for Hygeine and Bladder!  We’ll keep adding things and these are available for use to community members only while wearing a LCAR Tag.  If you wear a different tag you can’t even get in to the court house…

HUD Systems

We’re really hoping DLS will come out with something that impacts the meter for health in the coming year as they have been working with AvatarLove for pregnancy and making the pregnancy experience more realistic.  If you use LoveMomma or MamaAllpa and are pregnant you will see your stats be impacted by being pregnant – you may get sleepier quick, need to pee more often, need to eat more often… and as these are consumables, we are trying to make them affordable via your roleplay work in sim to buy – see the reference to RolePay above.  Rome wasn’t built in a day but we’re really happy with how it’s rolling out.  We are hoping to see further features for DLS that would make our Sheriff’s dept happy in the future, same with any hunters.  We’ll just have to keep hoping.  In the meantime – to roleplay risk of injury you can do a dice roll by clicking on the DLS logo on your DLS hud.  An option for rolling dice will come up…  we’re roleplayers, we can figure it out right?  The higher the number the more the critical hit… 

THE GOVERNORS THANK YOUS

We’ve got an amazing community and I want first and foremost to thank you all.  We’ve had some ups and downs this summer, said goodbye to a few folks as they logged out of First life, and have survived a pandemic together. That RL Pandemic isn’t gone yet, and we’re still keeping each other sane, becoming a family of sorts – some more than others.

I feel like this could just be filled with thank yous, as I am ever so grateful for this amazing community we have.  And I truly am.   I love how you all want to see us grow and are warm and welcoming to outsiders.  The fact that we have a carefully curated culture of OOC Decency and Kindness and inclusivity really is important as it attracts others like us, like a magnet would do.
